Template Millennium Goals - Dream your future

The students are involved in the missions through an interactive lesson after the play. The students make their own ‘dream path’, their own galaxy. They have to make a big star with their own dream on it, with smaller stars towards it, with the different steps on it to reach this dream. They end the lesson with a discussion of the theatre play. Afterwards everybody gets some material about the millennium goals with them. After a few weeks the foundation sends an evaluation questionnaire to check whether the missions of the play were well understood.

Place Publique Junior is a yearly festival gathering around 200 participants and enabling young people to express themselves while being heard by adults and institutions representatives.Young people reflect about, talk about, illustrate - using whichever mean they chose- topics relevant to society and more specifically to their cities’ development policy.

Examples of themes that took place:

  • Dialogue between young people, policy makers and politicians,

  • Gender equality

  • Living in a city: moving from conflict to dialog,

  • Europe: opening to new members

The festival itself is “built around” a pedagogical process”. It is free and opened to all; it lasts for three days.  It mixes serious “thinking and talking” to art and creativity. For instance, TV and radio broadcasts (organized by young people with the help of professionals) are frequently used to keep a record of the event and add to its livelihood.

Art can help the individual person to focus on ideas, to think, discuss and create (come to solutions) without being very ‘verbal’.  In this Good Practice ‘Me as an European Citizen’ the participant start as individuals and continue the process towards a group of more responsible citizens. Every step follows the other, it’ s a kind of continuing feedback and evolution.Although it’s here presented as one process, it’s possible to use some separate ideas and exercises as tools in other curricula or informal / non formal learning situations.

This Good practice is the result of some ongoing workshops, evaluations, discussions in the Soccer-workgroups and proven experiences with youngsters.
